- Three Western Australian Disability Enterprises to share in $765,000 of grant funding
- Intelife, Workpower, and Good Sammy Enterprises will support employment opportunities for people with disability in regional WA
- Grants form part of Sector Transition Fund Six
Three not-for-profit organisations are set to share in $765,000 from the Cook Government to support employment opportunities for Western Australians with disability in regional areas.
Intelife and Workpower will receive $250,000 each to deliver programs which help people with disability to explore their employment goals, build skills, and improve job readiness.
They will also engage with employers to provide training to upskill managers in disability awareness and ways to build an inclusive work culture.
Good Sammy Enterprises will receive $265,000 to deliver disability awareness training to State Government agencies in regional centres, as well as school-based traineeship programs for schools in Albany, Bunbury, Northam, and Geraldton.
The grants form part of Sector Transition Fund (STF) Six, a $4 million commitment to ensure the ongoing employment of people with disability who were affected by Activ Foundation's decision in 2022 to close its large workshops.
Sector consultation has informed which areas require STF funding, with the development of employment opportunities for people with disability in regional areas raised as an area of specific focus.
Intelife, Workpower, and Good Sammy Enterprises are Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs), which provide employment opportunities for people with disability.
The grants align with the State Government's 'A Western Australia for Everyone: State Disability Strategy 2020-2030', which sets the foundation for building a more inclusive WA, empowering people with disability to participate meaningfully in all parts of society and to have the resources to do so.
As stated by Disability Services Minister Don Punch:
"The employment of people with disability remains a priority for the Cook Government.
"We are proud of our track record in supporting WA Disability Enterprises, which play a valuable role in providing employment opportunities for people with disability and helping them to gain the skills required to seek open employment."
