A WA man is expected to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today (19 July, 2024), charged with allegedly assaulting a member of the public at Perth Airport early this morning.
The AFP arrested the South Fremantle man, 30, just after 2:30am today, after he allegedly shoulder charged and punched another man, shortly after disembarking a flight that had arrived at Perth Airport from Bali.
AFP officers have charged the man with one count of common assault, contrary to section 313 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code Act Compilation Act 1913 (WA).
The maximum penalty for this offence is 18 months' imprisonment and a fine of up to $18,000.
AFP Acting Inspector Josh Gilmour said there was zero tolerance for violent or abusive behaviour anywhere in the airport.
"Other travellers should not be subjected to violence or other bad behaviour," Acting Inspector Gilmour said.
"The AFP works closely with the airline industry to intervene if anyone's behaviour interferes with the safety of the public in or around an airport, or on flights."
