Leaders from across Western Australia's skills training system will meet on 30 April 2024 to examine the drivers of quality and student demand. The event is the 2024 RTO Business Summit – Perth, convened by the Independent Tertiary Education Council Australia (ITECA), the peak body representing independent skills training, higher education, and international education providers.
"This event is all about empowering senior executives from the skills training system with the information needed to make informed decisions about the future of their institutions," said Troy Williams, ITECA Chief Executive.
Data from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) shows that independent Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) support 94.8% of all students in training across the state.
"With independent RTOs doing the heavy lifting in providing Western Australian businesses with a skilled and educated workforce, this makes the summit this year's key event for the state's skills training sector," Mr. Williams said.
The keynote presentation at the 2024 RTO Business Summit – Perth will be delivered by the Western Australian Minister for Training and Workforce Development, the Hon. Simone McGurk MLA.
A key topic at the summit will be the quality delivery of skills training, with commitments in this area shared by independent RTOs and the Western Australian Government.
"It's great to be showcasing the commitment of independent RTOs to delivering quality student outcomes, particularly since the official data shows these providers lead in key metrics of quality, including student satisfaction with assessment, teaching, and learning resources," Mr. Williams said.
The significance of the 2024 RTO Business Summit – Perth is underscored by NCVER data that highlights the substantial contribution of independent RTOs to the skilling of Western Australia's workforce. For example, in the mining sector independent RTOs support 90.3% of student enrolments in the Certificate III in Surface Extraction Operations and 100.0% of the student enrolments in the Certificate III in Drilling Operations.
"The summit offers the chance for senior executives from independent RTOs to meet with leading employers to develop a shared understanding of the quality skills training required to support Western Australia's growing economy," Mr. Williams said.
