Wagga Wagga's netball community can look forward to several exciting upgrades by the end of 2024, with new aspects of design revealed this week regarding the two new mixed-use courts scheduled to be built as part of Stage 1 of the Bolton Park Sports Hub.
Project Manager Matt Griffin said that the revitalised space will be co-delivered alongside the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre Upgrade. It will new hard acrylic, non-cushioned surfaces to be installed which – like the new tennis courts – will centre on enhanced durability, and improved player safety.
"These fresh new spaces have been designed in accordance with Netball Australia and Tennis Australia specifications," Mr Griffin stated.
"Players of both sports can look forward to experiencing safer game play, on competition-standard surfaces which have also been designed to minimise cuts and scrapes for anyone who might fall on them."
Surrounding amenities are also in line for an upgrade that includes new changerooms, which have been designed with a focus on greater security and easier accessibility.
In addition, new court lighting will be installed, offering players and spectators alike a more consistent and uniformly lit space.
A new kiosk is also scheduled to be built as part of the overall Jim Elphick Tennis Centre with the goal of improving the spectator and player gameday experience for all sports communities utilising the space.
Director Regional Activation John Sidgwick noted that he looks forward to the Wagga Wagga sporting community having access to facilities which will not only benefit athletes but will also attract new players, events and tourism and contribute to wider community health and wellbeing goals.
"The redevelopment of the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre and Bolton Park Sports Hub overall, marks an exciting and meaningful investment by both Council and other valued stakeholders, in Wagga Wagga's future, on many fronts," Mr Sidgwick said.
"We look forward to delivering this revitalised sporting facility, which we are confident will benefit our local clubs and promote growth, while also contributing to the long-term health and vitality of our community through various sports."
The redevelopment of the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre – including the new mixed-use courts – is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
Stage 1 of the Bolton Park Sports Hub is proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Wagga Wagga City Council and Tennis NSW.
