A man has been charged after allegedly lighting a marine flare near an officer while attempting to avoid arrest on the Mid North Coast yesterday.
About 7.25pm (Thursday 2 April 2020), officers from Mid North Coast Police District attended a property on Ponsford Road, Comboyne, about 60km south-west of Port Macquarie, in relation to a man wanted on outstanding warrants.
Police will allege a 25-year-old man was found hiding under a bed in a caravan, and allegedly set off a marine flare near the face of an officer.
When the flare filled the caravan with smoke the man fled on foot into nearby bushland.
He was arrested with the assistance from the Dog Unit a short time later and was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station.
The man has been charged with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, possess explosive/gunpowder to enable another to injure, assault officer in execution of duty and, resist officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court today (Friday 3 April 2020).
