Residents of Northbridge and surrounds now have even more reason to get active outdoors, with the installation of new AFL goal posts at Warners Park, thanks to a partnership between Willoughby City Council and AFL NSW/ACT.
The junior footy posts are part of AFL's Posts in Parks initiative, designed to encourage informal play and make footy more accessible to families of all ages.
To mark their arrival, a community event was held during Parks Week, an initiative celebrating the vital role parks play in fostering vibrant, connected communities. Mayor Tanya Taylor and her family, alongside Councillor Sarah Royds, joined in the festivities, welcoming this new addition to the park.
"These posts are an open invitation for kids and families to get outside, have a kick, and enjoy their local park," Mayor Taylor said. "We want to see more people making the most of our beautiful open spaces, and this is a fantastic way to encourage that."
AFL NSW/ACT Venue & Government Partnerships Manager Samuel Thomson said he was pleased to see the posts in place at Warners Park.
"As our game continues to grow across New South Wales, we want to make footy more accessible to everyone," Mr Thomson said. "We're excited to see these posts installed to provide the local community with more opportunities to get active and play footy."
