WA's Sam Kerr Football Centre Expands and Upgrades

  • Tender awarded for the Sam Kerr Football Centre Stage 2 works
  • Works will include installation of two full-size pitches and associated lighting
  • Allows for increased grassroots and high-performance participation

The WA Government has awarded a $4 million tender to a local Western Australian company to begin an exciting new chapter for the recently opened Sam Kerr Football Centre in Queens Park.

Environmental Industries has been awarded a contract to carry out the works to establish two new natural turf pitches, including site preparation, earthworks, irrigation, lighting, shade structures, fencing and landscaping.

The new pitches will be a critical addition to the facility and allow for increased participation at both the grassroots and high-performance level.

The Sam Kerr Football Centre officially opened in October 2023 and is a world-class, high-performance facility.

Stage 1 works costing $50.8 million involved constructing two floodlit full-size hybrid turf pitches, three five-a-side pitches, a tiered grandstand for 700 spectators, change rooms, sport science centre and administration facilities for Football West.

Since its opening, more than 130,000 people have utilised the facility. The venue hosts A-League Women's games, Perth Glory Women's games and National Premierships, among others, and was used as a training base by five international teams during the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.

The centre will be used as a training facility by the Socceroos next month as well as for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup.

Stage 2 works are expected to begin next month with an estimated completion date of January 2026.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The Stage 2 upgrades will make the Sam Kerr Football Centre even bigger and better, providing extra capacity to encourage more grassroots community use of the facility while still supporting high performance training and competition.

"The centre is a valuable asset for WA sport and the community, and Sam Kerr's connection to the centre will continue to inspire a new generation of young players eager to follow in her footsteps and realise their dreams.

"The WA Government is pleased to support local company Environmental Industries by awarding them this tender based on their extensive experience in delivering turf, landscaping, and ground maintenance services."
