Waste Tracker Non-compliance Crack Down

Failing to properly complete EPA Victoria's electronic waste tracking system, Waste Tracker, has cost a business nearly $10,000 in EPA fines.

Waste Tracker is an electronic system used to track reportable priority waste (RPW – the highest risk waste category) in Victoria. It identifies waste as it's created, transported and disposed of. Any gap in the records can identify a potential non-compliance and lead EPA to take action.

Waste tyre transporters RR Recycling Group Pty Ltd in Wallan failed to properly complete the recording of their waste tyres in Waste Tracker earning them a $9,880 fine.

"It is vitally important to keep a close watch on where waste, especially waste tyres and other RPW, is going," said EPA Executive Director Operations Joss Crawford.

"Businesses have had plenty of time to get to know Waste Tracker, how to use it and the importance EPA places on the system as a way of deterring illegal dumping.

'Other businesses can expect similar action if they're also non-compliant."
