Waste Tyre Recycler Fined

A waste tyre company has been fined by EPA Victoria for failing to manage the shredded tyre waste created in the recycling process.

EPA has issued a $3,952 fine to WASTE TYRE RECYCLERS PTY LTD, which trades as Scrap Tyre Recyclers, of Box Forest Rd, Glenroy, after an inspection by officers found tyre debris had been allowed to escape into external stormwater drains.

"Our officers found that poor waste management had contributed to the tyre litter escaping and entering the stormwater drain system," said EPA North Metro Regional Manager Chloe Bernett.

"We inspected the business in December and warned them that the waste was escaping across from their driveway, over the road and into stormwater drains.

"Even though they partially cleaned up, EPA officers could still identify tyre shred debris within stormwater drains on a follow up inspection several days later.

"Everyone has a duty to act to protect the environment. We only want rainwater going down our stormwater drains, and Waste Tyre Recyclers needed to be reminded of that legal obligation."
