Council has ticked off an $11.1 million investment in water infrastructure to cater for population growth and remediate existing reservoirs.
Stage one of the Mount Peter Infrastructure Project, which services the nearby residential area south of Cairns, will involve a new 8 megalitre water reservoir, road access and associated earth works, water mains and pump station works.
Council will start construction of the $3.47 million project by the end of the year and is scheduled to be finished by December 2024.
A tender for stage two is expected to be released in 2024.
The project is critical to enabling and building vibrant, innovative and resilient communities in the area.
Council also launched $7.63 million worth of remediation works at nine reservoirs in suburbs including Edge Hill, Brinsmead, Bayview, Freshwater and Redlynch.
This three-year investment will reduce maintenance and address issues identified in condition assessments.
