Bass Coast Shire Council's new multisport court facility in Corinella is now open and ready to play, just in time for the summer holidays.
The new facility at Corinella is located with Harold Hughes Reserve and follows Council's adoption of the Harold Hughes Reserve Master Plan. The project includes a tennis court, with an acrylic playing surface which meets Tennis Victoria's guidelines, a multi-purpose court, which includes a netball and basketball ring, soccer goals and is line-marked to accommodate an additional tennis court, as well as new fencing and lighting. This $684,000 project was fully funded by Council through its Asset Renewal Program.
In addition, Grantville Recreation Reserve is also undergoing a significant upgrade, with the construction of a new tennis court and a multi-purpose court, as well as new fencing and lighting, currently underway.
The $456,000 Grantville project was funded by $250,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria, $110,000 from Council, $30,000 from the Grantville Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, $25,000 from Bendigo Bank and $41,000 from Tennis Victoria. The construction of this exciting new facility has been delayed slightly and is now expected to be completed in early 2021. The project is the second stage of the Grantville Activation Project and complements the skate park that was completed 12 months ago.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said that it is fantastic to see such incredible facilities being built, which mean so much to the communities where they are located.
"These two brilliant projects will provide the communities of Grantville and Corinella with a wonderful space and the perfect excuse to get active outdoors," Cr Tessari said.
"Council has been working hard to upgrade the sporting facilities across the whole Shire, with many of our tennis facilities now boasting new courts, with the best playing surfaces out there."
