Weffalee Shield Eyes Third Wauchope Cup Victory

The Mid North Coast Greyhound Racing Club (MNCGRC) is abuzz with anticipation as local hero Weffalee Shield gears up for an historic third victory in the prestigious Wauchope Cup this Wednesday night.

With two titles already under his belt, the seasoned campaigner is poised to cement his legacy as one of the region's all-time greats.

MNCG Director Wayne Sturgin spoke of the greyhound's enduring appeal and remarkable career:

"Weffalee Shield is more than just a race dog; he's a symbol of perseverance and excellence. His back-to-back Wauchope Cup wins captivated the community, and now, the possibility of a third title is inspiring for everyone connected to our sport."

The Wauchope Cup, a highlight of the Mid North Coast racing calendar, attracts the best greyhounds from across the state. The 2025 edition promises to be no exception, with strong contenders lining up to challenge Weffalee Shield's reign.

Sturgin continued, "This year's Cup is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent history. But with Weffalee Shield's record and his indomitable spirit, he's sure to give the crowd something special."

The MNCGRC invites all racing fans and community members to witness the excitement at the Taree Greyhound Track on Wednesday night, January 8. The Cup is more than a race, it's a celebration of the sport, the dedication of owners and trainers, and the vibrant local racing community.

There will plenty to do and win, the Equip Loans pick 8 – for $8,888 is free to enter as is the admission to the track, with 20 seafood raffle trays courtesy of McLeans Oysters and Seafood also on offer. First Race approximately 7.00pm.
