A retired couple from Trinity Bay, Cairns, is preparing for a life of travel and relaxation after winning $2 million in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw.
The couple’s ticket was one of ten Division One-winning entries in the nationwide draw, held on 26 October, with each winner receiving a $2 million prize.
The husband, who usually waits until Sunday to check his ticket, had a sudden hunch to check right after the draw, leading to the surprising discovery.
“So exciting! Woo-hoo!” he said, describing the moment as “a lot of shock.”
“I wasn’t going to check the ticket until Sunday, which is normally what I do. But I had a feeling to check it straight after the draw. After I checked the ticket, we couldn’t sleep a wink!
“I normally just do a QuickPick entry and I guess these are my lucky numbers now!
“My wife and I have just entered retirement, so this has come at the most perfect time.
“We will be able to use this prize to boost our retirement plans. Maybe we’ll go on a few holidays!
Their winning 36-game QuickPick was purchased at TSG DFO Cairns, Shop 305 DFO Cairns, 274 Mulgrave Road, Cairns.
TSG DFO Cairns manager Kelly Moran said she was so excited to learn that her store sold another division one winning entry.
“This is our third division one winnning entry in three years and we’re so happy to continue the winning streak!” she said.
“We’ve started to decorate the store with balloons and we’re letting all of our customers know about the exciting win.
“A huge congratulations to our winning couple. We wish them all the very best with their prize. We can’t imagine what $2 million would allow them to do!”
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4515 on 26 October 2024 were 42, 35, 1, 43, 25 and 29, while the supplementary numbers were 19 and 31.
