Wellington Officer Charged With Drug Offense

Police have charged a correctional officer over an alleged attempt to introduce prohibited drugs into WellingtonCorrectional Centre in thestate's west.

Just after 7.45am on Tuesday (7 January 2025), police were called to the correctional centre on Mudgee Road, Wellington, following reports of a person attempting to bring prohibited drugs into the facility.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District were told a 35-year-old male correctional officer allegedly attempted to bring aprohibited drug into the facility on his way to work when a drug detection dog gavea positive indication.

A search of his vehicle allegedly located substances believed to be approximately 13g of Buprenorphine suboxone strips, 27g of methylamphetamine, 100g of tobacco.

All items and his vehicle were seized to be forensically examined.

He was taken to Wellington Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drug more than indictable and less than commercial quantity (two counts), bring etc prohibited drug/plan into place of detention, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Tuesday 7 January 2025), where he was refused bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday (23 January 2025).
