Greater Shepparton City Council will commence works on Stage 4 of the Welsford Street Redevelopment on Monday 14 November, 2022.
Stage 4 works, to be undertaken by Apex Earthworks, includes reconfiguration of the signalised Welsford Street and Fryers Street intersection with an additional right hand turning lane. It also involves works to reconfigure the Fryers Street and Marungi Street "T" intersection so that Marungi Street is left turn in and left turn out only.
The works also involve pavement upgrades, upgrade to traffic signals and surrounding landscaping. The upgrade is designed to improve the standard of traffic flow along Welsford Street and will result in safer traffic movements.
Road closures will be in place during the works with the Welsford Street and Fryers Street intersection closed to motorists. People travelling in the area are advised to follow the traffic management and detour signage in place.
Businesses along Welsford Street will still have access to their properties during the works and pedestrian access will be maintained, however there will be some temporary changes as works progress.
The works are expected to take around three to four months to complete, with anticipated completion in early March 2023.
"Council is excited to see these works get underway to transform the section of Welsford Street to improve traffic flow and safety of the road for motorists and pedestrians," Council's Director Infrastructure, Gary Randhawa said.
"While there will be some disruptions in the area during the works, Council will be communicating with everyone impacted to ensure they are well aware of the changes and we will work with all stakeholders to assist in any way we can during the construction phase. We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation during the works."
