Our road network is a critical link for millions of Melburnians to move around the city and beyond, which is why we support various programs to help people learn to drive and use our roads safely and responsibly.
We're proud to support the TAC L2P program which, since 2009, has helped over 9,000 young people gain their probationary licence and be safe and confident drivers on the roads.
Learning to drive can be a challenge at any time, and regular access to a vehicle and patient instructor is essential. The TAC L2P program removes these barriers by providing access to free supervised driving experience for young people who need the support.
Strengthening communities is at the core of what we do. Our support of six TAC L2P programs across Melbourne will help deliver driver training and education for approximately 284 young people and their volunteer driver mentors in these communities.
About the TAC L2P program
The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) L2P Program is a community-based program developed to assist eligible young Victorian learner drivers between the ages of 16 and 21 years, who do not have access to a supervising driver or an appropriate vehicle, gain driving experience required for a probationary licence.
The program is funded by Transport Accident Commission (TAC), managed by the Department of Transport and Planning and delivered by 51 local councils and community organisations across Victoria.
The TAC L2P Program is free for young learner drivers who meet the eligibility criteria.
Young learner drivers are matched with fully licensed volunteer mentors and have access to a program vehicle, which is used to gain the supervised driving experience required to obtain a probationary driver's licence.
