More key worker accommodation on the West Coast for Tasmania's frontline workers and key industries is a major focus in the recently formalised West Coast Strategic Regional Partnership
The Partnership will unlock further opportunities on the West Coast for key areas including health workers, teachers, mining and tourism.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Tasmanian Government wants to see the West Coast region thrive, and is committed to investment in the infrastructure, services and people they need to continue to grow and prosper.
"Our partnership with the West Coast Council and stakeholders includes $150,000 to deliver a housing feasibility study as part of the first stage of the Key Worker Accommodation Pilot," Premier Rockliff said.
"We know demand for housing is growing, and as we look to attract and retain quality staff across all industries on the West Coast, we must do all we can to expand the accommodation options for workers.
"The project will identify options for building new accommodation that can deliver long-term and short-term housing for industry and major employers."
Developed in partnership with Homes Tasmania, Bank of Us and the Strategic Regional Partnership, the pilot will include options to incentivise investors and to overcome the challenges of construction on the West Coast.
Premier Rockliff said the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future has committed $5 million to the West Coast Region for the Key Worker Accommodation Pilot and a new Emergency Services Hub in Rosebery.
"Strategic Regional Partnerships are about supporting sustainable, economic development in our regional communities, as well as improving community wellbeing," the Premier said.
Two partnerships have been established to date with the Western region and the East Coast progressing regional priorities.
Along with the work on the West Coast, the Tasmanian Government is supporting other identified priorities and has already delivered more than $1 million in funding to support our regions in advancing the following projects:
The Tasmanian Government will continue to work with our regional partners on progressing the objectives of the Strategic Regional Partnerships and ensure that our regions have what they need to succeed.
