West Gate Tunnel soil decision

City of Melton Mayor Cr Kathy Majdlik:

"After fiercely campaigning to keep the West Gate Tunnel soil out of the City of Melton, we're relieved that Melbourne Regional Landfill in Ravenhall has not been selected as the preferred site by Transurban.

"Last night, it was revealed that Hi Quality in Bulla had been identified as the preferred location. Transurban has indicated that at this stage it has no plans to activate any other site.

"We understand this has been an extremely important issue for all communities and councils involved in this matter, and dumping contaminated soil close to where people live and work should never be an option under any circumstance.

"More than 2000 people supported our campaign to prevent contaminated soil from the West Gate Tunnel project being processed at Ravenhall.

"I would like to thank every single person who supported our campaign. Everyone who signed the petition gave our whole community a strong voice against this proposal. Thank you also to my fellow Councillors, particularly Cambridge Ward Councillors, who strongly opposed the dumping of toxic soil in our treasured community.

"I'd also like to thank Brimbank City Council for partnering with us on this campaign, and the local members who represented Council's position and the voice of the community to parliament."
