Western Australia coronovirus update as at 30 June 2021

WA Health has reported one locally acquired case in addition to three new cases of COVID-19, which are related to overseas travel overnight in WA.

Case 1025 is a woman in her 50s; Case 1026 is a female in her teens and Case 1027 is a man in his 50s. All have arrived from overseas and are in hotel quarantine.

Case 1028 is a man in his 30s who was previously exposed to Cases 1022 and 1023. He has been in quarantine since Sunday, 27 June and initially tested negative on that day. The man then returned a positive test yesterday.

WA Health advises that anyone who visited or worked at the Mobius Health and Performance gym in Joondalup since Tuesday, 22 June should attend a COVID-19 clinic and get tested immediately, quarantine and call Public Health Operations on 1300 316 555 (8am – 8pm).

Contact tracing continues with initial public exposure sites available on the HealthyWA website.

A total of 310 close contacts have been identified in this community cluster, of which 205 have tested negative so far

In addition, a total of 2199 casual contacts have been identified, of which 701 have tested negative so far.

Case 1022 visited Connolly Primary School, Koondoola Primary School and Burbridge School. WA Health has closed these schools for the remainder of Term 2 to enable contact tracers to complete their work. They will reopen again in Term 3.

WA continues to monitor contacts of a positive COVID-19 case at the Granites gold mine in the Northern Territory.

The mine worker, from Victoria, is suspected to have been infected at the Airport Novotel Langley quarantine hotel in Brisbane and was potentially infectious from 18 to 25 June.

175 mine workers, who were tested in WA, have all returned an initial negative test and are all undertaking 14 days of quarantine. They will all be required to be tested again.

All other mine workers who did arrive in WA as close contacts have now left WA. WA Health is monitoring seven active COVID-19 cases ­(including two cases in hotel quarantine) – 1011 people have recovered from the virus in WA.

SafeWA

Yesterday, almost 1.2 million scans were recorded on the SafeWA app.

Testing clinics

Since Saturday, 26 June WA Health, in conjunction with private providers Clinipath, Western Diagnostic Pathology and Australian Clinical Labs, has collected 43,675 swabs.

Yesterday, 18,255 people were swabbed.

To date there have been 1,322,731 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those, 165,063 were from regional WA.

Since Monday, 28 June, WA Health has added four additional drive through testing locations in the northern suburbs to assist the community to access testing:

  • Wangara (Mineral Resources/Australian Clinical Labs)
  • The Marina Mindarie (Clinipath)
  • HBF Arena Joondalup (Western Diagnostic Pathology)
  • ECU Joondalup Campus (PathWest/SHICC)

WA Health appreciates the support of WA Police in managing queues at all sites and helping to distribute demand.

Vaccination

Yesterday, 12,242 people ;received a COVID vaccination, 3831 of those were second doses.

New South Wales and Queensland

WA has raised the border control arrangement level with Queensland to medium, the same as NSW, in the wake of the escalating COVID-19 outbreak in that State.

All people who have arrived into WA from Queensland and New South Wales are asked to continue to monitor updated exposure sites on the Queensland Health and NSW Health websites.

Victoria, ACT and Northern Territory

Victoria is assessed as a low-risk location. All returning travellers are required to get tested immediately (within 48 hours of arrival in WA), self-quarantine for 14 days, and have another test on day 11 of their quarantine.

South Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand

All are assessed as very low risk.

Variants

To date, 99 cases of variant strains have been detected in Western Australia – 53 of the Alpha (UK variant) strain, 15 of the Beta (South African variant) strain, one of the Gamma (Brazilian variant) strain and 30 of the Delta (Indian variant) strain.
