- Government launches new-look Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy
- WAIPS 2024 to focus on innovation, health and medical, digital technologies and environmental/climate change

The Cook Government has released a refreshed Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy (WAIPS) to support local businesses bid for State Government supply contracts.
WAIPS 2024 supports local industry, including the digital sector, to supply products and services to the State Government, whose annual spend is around $32 billion.
Minister Assisting the State and Industry Development Minister Stephen Dawson said enabling local digital and innovative companies into the WA Government supply chain creates jobs and grows and strengthens our economy.
This latest version of WAIPS has broadened and expanded its scope to provide more benefits to the State.
WAIPS was launched six years ago with the goal of boosting local industry participation and ensuring procurement supported local industry and jobs.
The refreshed WAIPS 2024 highlights key focus areas including increased promotion of local innovation and procuring a larger share of our health and medical supplies from WA businesses.
WAIPS has been designed to support local business in WA's changing economy and environment.
Since October 2018, the WA Jobs Act and WAIPS have delivered almost 2,400 contracts valued at nearly $50 billion. These contracts had a local content share of 87.4 per cent, meaning $42.9 billion of this value has been retained within Western Australia.
WAIPS went digital on 1 July 2024 with its new user-friendly online platform to assist businesses streamline their compliance with WAIPS-related reporting obligations.
The WAIPS Portal provides a more efficient way for users to complete and submit participation plans and reports, with automatic reminder emails and links to required reporting templates.
Agencies and suppliers required to report under WAIPS can now log in to view existing contract data and complete necessary documentation.
Those who have not yet signed up for the WAIPS Portal can do so at waips.industrylink.wa.gov.au.

"This new-look WA Industry Participation Strategy is doing just that with more opportunities to build on past successes which has assisted local businesses secure almost 2,400 contracts valued at nearly $50 billion.
"Since 2018, the billions in agency spend have been retained in Western Australia and supported over 87,000 jobs with almost 22,500 located in regional areas.
"WAIPS is dedicated to supporting our local industries and this new-look version along with the new online portal ensures this successful project continues to evolve and remains relevant into the future."
