Western Region Officers Intensify Moree Patrols

Western region police have conducted a three-day high-visibility operation proactively targeting alleged offenders in the Moree area.

Between Thursday 12 December 2024 and Sunday 15 December 2024, officers attached to New England Police District, Proactive Crime Team, Licensing Unit, Western Region Enforcement Squad, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Youth Command, the Western Region Domestic Violence Team, and detectives conducted a high-visibility operation.

Operation Surge is part of Operation Regional Mongoose, which was formed to target young offenders who commit break and enter offences and steal motor vehicles.

During the three-day operation, police arrested and charged 12 people with a combined total of 38 offences, including six outstanding warrant offenders.

Police also conducted 23 bail compliance checks, four business inspections, seven person searches and issued seven move on directions. There were also seven drug detections.

Incidents of note include:

  • On Thursday 12 December 2024, a 30-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station and charged by virtue of an outstanding warrant for the offences of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, unlicenced driver and fail to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgement. She was refused bail to appear before Moree Local Court on Monday 16 December 2024.
  • On Saturday 14 December 2024, a 42-year-old man was arrested in Moree after he allegedly attempted to use counterfeit currency. He was taken to Moree Police Station and charged with possess counterfeit money and dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception. He was given conditional bail to appear before Moree Local Court on Monday 3 February 2025.
  • On Saturday 14 December 2024, an 18-year-old man was arrested at a home on Adelaide Street Moree. He was taken to Moree Police Station and charged by virtue of two outstanding warrants for the offences of aggravated break and enter, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, fail to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgement, possess prohibited drug, enter building / land with intent commit indictable offence and destroy or damage property. He was refused bail to appear at a children's court on Monday 16 December 2024.

Operation Surge will continue to be rolled-out throughout the state's western region.
