The Albanese Labor Government is delivering more emergency housing for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence, with the completion of a new Safe Places site in Western Sydney.
Assistant Minister for Social Services and Assistant Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, Justine Elliot, today visited the newly constructed Safe Places site built by Habitat for Humanity Australia.
"Safe Places are a place of refuge, and that's why the construction of a new nine-bedroom home is so vital when it comes to providing security and safety for women and children fleeing violence," Assistant Minister Elliot said.
"These new self-contained spaces will provide trauma-informed support to over 130 women and children experiencing family and domestic violence each year."
The Albanese Labor Government has committed more than $172 million through the Safe Places Emergency Accommodation Program (Safe Places) under the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032.
The Safe Places program provides capital works grants to support the renovation, building or purchase of fit-for-purpose crisis or emergency accommodation places for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.
Under the first round of Safe Places grants, there are 40 projects funded to deliver around 779 safe places, which will assist up to 6,047 women and children per year.
The Government's $100 million investment into the recently announced Safe Places Inclusion Round will deliver an additional 720 Safe Places, bringing the total number of Safe Places to around 1,500 once completed.
