Australian Border Force (ABF) Investigators have arrested a Western Sydney man following an investigation into multiple large-scale drug importations into Australia.
On 7 August 2023, the ABF executed a search warrant at a property in Prospect in relation to the alleged importation of a commercial quantity of pseudoephedrine.
The offender was arrested, taken to Blacktown Police station and charged with three counts of importing a commercial quantity of border controlled precursors.
The man was refused bail yesterday 8 August 2023 at Blacktown Local Court. He will next appear before Parramatta Local Court on 6 October 2023.
The ABF investigation commenced following the detection of 34kg of pseudoephedrine at the border in May 2023.
Subsequent enquiries by ABF Investigators led to the discovery of two additional importations in July 2023, both allegedly facilitated by the same person.
ABF A/g Superintendent Michael Mahony praised the diligent work of ABF officers involved in disrupting criminal syndicates.
"The ABF works day in and day out to make the Australian border a hostile environment for those seeking to import illicit substances that can harm the community," Supt Mahony said.
"Pseudoephedrine is used in make-shift drug labs throughout Sydney and across Australia, posing a significant risk to the community.
"We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners, both domestically and internationally, to make it harder than ever before to be a criminal in Australia."
This arrest follows the conviction and imprisonment of another Sydney man on Friday 21 July 2023 at Downing Centre District Court, following an ABF investigation.
The man was found guilty of one count of import commercial quantity of border controlled precursor, after 5kg of pseudoephedrine was detected by ABF in October 2021. The man was sentenced to five years and seven months in prison, with a non-parole period of three years.
Members of the community who observe suspicious border-related activity can report it anonymously 24/7 through Border Watch.
