COLUMBUS, Ohio — Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) announced today that the organizations have reached agreement on a new network participation contract. The multi-year agreement, effective Wednesday, January 1, 2025, continues access to high-quality, affordable care at Ohio State for Anthem employer-sponsored health plan members.
"We are pleased we were able to reach an agreement with Anthem before the Dec. 31 expiration of our current contract to enable us to continue caring for Anthem commercially insured patients," said John J. Warner, MD, CEO of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and executive vice president at Ohio State.
Anthem employer-sponsored health plan members who've canceled or rescheduled any appointments are encouraged to schedule online with MyChart or call the Ohio State patient information line at 614-293-8000 to resume care.
Anthem and Ohio State did not reach agreement on the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and The James remaining in the Anthem Medicare Advantage network for 2025.
Ohio State will transition to an out-of-network care provider for Anthem Medicare Advantage members beginning Wednesday, January 1. Patients who wish to continue their care through Medicare Advantage at Ohio State will have an opportunity to switch to another Medicare Advantage plan during the open enrollment period that begins January 1, 2025. More patient information is available at wexnermedical.osu.edu/anthemMA. Anthem Medicare Advantage members who wish to seek care at an alternative in-network provider may call Anthem's member service center for assistance.
"Anthem and OSU remain committed to working together to serve our community, and I'm proud that we were able to reach an agreement that maintains access to high-quality, affordable healthcare at OSU's hospitals and doctors for our employer-sponsored health plan members," said Jane Peterson, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio.
"We thank our patients and communities for their patience, and for entrusting the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and The James Cancer Hospital with their health," Warner said. "We're honored to care for patients and families across Ohio."
