Two Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) vessels are out on Moreton Bay this morning searching for a whale that is reported to have been unintentionally struck by a vessel yesterday.
It is believed the strike happened off Banana Banks around 4.45pm during the severe storm that impacted south east Queensland.
The whale, along with its calf, was last seen travelling north between Peel Island and Cleveland.
The adult animal appeared to have a wound on its upper side.
QPWS has requested all barges and ferry operators to keep a close watch for the whale and report any sightings.
Searching will continue throughout the day.
