They may have been abandoned, abused, and neglected but the animals at RSPCA WA haven't been forgotten this Christmas.
It turns out they were all on the nice list!
Last night, Santa Paws delivered scrumptious treats and a new toy to every single dog, cat, guinea pig, rabbit, duck, and goat at the Animal Care Centre in Malaga.
A lot of compassionate people were on hand to make the day special too – ten staff and 21 volunteers served up over 800 special meals, helped play with new presents, and gave out lots of pats and cuddles.
For the dogs and puppies at the shelter, the day started with an early walk to beat the heat, and some extra play time, before tearing into their Christmas stocking, packed with donated toys.
Meanwhile, the cats and kittens were served a tasty treat with their breakfast while the rabbits and guinea pigs nibbled on a selection of holiday-themed fruit and veg, while keeping cool in the air-conditioned barn.
RSPCA WA spokesperson Lou Rowe said there are currently 400 animals in care at the animal care centre.
"There are many reasons why animals find themselves with us over Christmas," she said.
"Some are still receiving vet treatment or behaviour training so aren't ready to be adopted yet and some are at the centre of ongoing cruelty prosecutions.
"Sadly, there are also some animals in care who just didn't get their wish for a new home by Christmas – like Chippie, who has been here for 84 long days."
The one-year-old Staffy was surrendered to RSPCA WA in October when her owner no longer had enough time for her.
Ms Rowe also thanked the many West Australians who donated to make the lives of animals better over Christmas and New Year's Day.
"We've been overwhelmed with peoples' generosity – West Australians are just so kind when it comes to animals in need, and we thank every single one," she said.
