Wheelers Hill Crash Turns Fatal

A man has died in hospital following a fatal crash in Wheelers Hill earlier this week.

It's understood a car crashed into a light pole on Ferntree Gully Road about 7.10pm on Wednesday, 29 May.

Two bystanders stopped to assist the 78-year-old Wheelers Hill driver following the crash.

It is believed a second vehicle clipped the broken light pole shortly afterwards, which fell and struck the driver and bystanders on the road.

The 78-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Both bystanders were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 27-year-old Ringwood East man, was not injured.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated.
