Whiskey Legion Targets Major Townsville Crime Rings

Specialist police have charged two men with drug offences as part of Operation Whiskey Legion's deployment to Townsville.

On September 14, officers from the Major Organised Crime Squad and Public Safety Response Team executed a search warrant at a Cluden address.

It will be alleged they seized approximately 1.6 kilograms of methylamphetamine, cannabis, cash, drug utensils, weapons including a baton, an electrical antipersonnel device, and a flick knife.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with two counts each of supplying dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count each of trafficking in dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs schedule 1, possessing anything used in the commission of crime, receiving or possessing property obtained from trafficking or supplying, and possessing dangerous drugs.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today, September 16.

A 22-year-old Vincent man was also charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of possess utensils.

He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on September 25.

This is one of 36 warrants executed since Operation Whiskey Legion launched in Townsville on September 11.

The multilevel operation is currently saturating the area and joining forces with local officers to target a range of crime issues.

As the operation enters its sixth day, 154 people have been arrested on 285 charges.

Townsville District Officer Chief Superintendent Graeme Paine said Operation Whiskey Legion has seen many successful outcomes in the first five days.

"By targeting those who pose the greatest threats, we've arrested a number of high-risk offenders - removing them from the community and preventing them causing further harm," Chief Superintendent Paine said.
