Labor's energy spokesman Dean Winter appears to have been put on ice by a struggling Opposition leaving the hapless Member for Pembroke to continue a campaign of misrepresentation and deception over Tasmanian's energy position.
Minister for Energy and Renewables, Nick Duigan, strongly refuted claims contained in Labor's last media release regarding the Australian Energy Regulator's State of the Energy Market report.
Minister Duigan said Labor is either wilfully misleading Tasmanians or don't understand the report.
"The Opposition is doing nothing more than cherry-picking content to misrepresent the State's energy standing to lazily promote their discredited power price cap proposal.
"The reality is the Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering on its plan to double our renewable energy by 2040 and ensure the State continues to have the lowest power prices in the nation.
"The Tasmanian Economic Regular has confirmed for residential customers in Tasmania the annual bill under Aurora Energy's regulated time-of-use tariff is the lowest in the nation. We also have among the most generous concessions targeting those in need.
"This government is ensuring we build supply to support our growing economy and deliver more jobs.
"More supply means lower prices.
"In contrast, Labor's price cap would be a disaster: it would put retailers out of business, destroy jobs, shut down new investment, threaten supply growth and force up prices.
"Tasmanians should be very wary of anything Labor- and its second string MP's - promise on power."
