Wide Bay has been strongly represented in the Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools, with two entries from the region taking out prestigious prizes.
Education Minister Grace Grace congratulated winners at the awards ceremony, hosted at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
"The Showcase Awards allow us to recognise and celebrate the great work our educators are doing every day to ensure that students in Queensland state schools are getting a world-class education," Ms Grace said.
"That there were so many high-quality entries to this year's awards shows the hard work, dedication and expertise of Queensland school staff."
Member for Hervey Bay Adrian Tantari congratulated Urangan State High School for winning the QSuper Showcase Award for Excellence in Secondary Years.
"Urangan State High School is a fantastic school community with great teachers, and it's great to see that recognised with this award," Mr Tantari said.
"The school's CAPIP – time for the right work program has used teaching teams to achieve great results in the classroom.
"The teams participate in twice-weekly collaboration sessions where they pre-moderate the curriculum and collaboratively assess student work.
"This unique approach has created benefits for both students and teachers."
Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders lauded the efforts of Tinana State School, which was presented with the TUH Health Fund Showcase Award for Excellence in Inclusive Education.
"All students have the right to an inclusive education, and that philosophy is strong at Tinana State School," Mr Saunders said.
"Their Everyone's welcome in the room – whatever it takes program ensures students have access to teaching strategies tailored for their educational needs.
"Results have been encouraging with a 15 per cent increase in students receiving a C or better in English, a 10 per cent improvement in mathematics from 2017 to 2021, a decrease in the number of student disciplinary absences, and an increase in parental collaboration.
"I'd like to congratulate teachers at Tinana for this outstanding initiative."
There were 86 submissions from right across Queensland for the 2022 awards, representing 220 state schools.
Minister Grace said each of the state award group category winners would receive a $10,000 development grant, with two individuals to each receive a $5,000 development grant.
"Educators have benefitted from a total of $166,000 in grant support from this year's Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools, including regional winners who received $1,000 each and regional commendations receiving $500 each," Ms Grace said.
"The Palaszczuk Government is continuing to support school communities with our record $16.5 billion education budget, supporting the good jobs, better services and great lifestyle of education with strong investment."
The 2022 program was sponsored by Education Queensland International, Griffith University, Network 10, RemServ, QSuper, QUT, Queensland Teachers' Union, and TUH Health Fund.
