Bega Valley Shire Council is holding the next Wilderness to Water guided walking tour at Murunna Headland on Saturday 17 December from 10am to 1.30pm.
Council's Environmental Management Officer, Erin Moon said the free events give walkers an opportunity to discover the environmental and cultural significance of some of the shire's most beautiful trails, with our first event seeing 70 people explore and learn more about the Merimbula Boardwalk.
"This time participants will start at Camel Rock Beach carpark and walk to Wallaga Lake Reserve," Ms Moon said.
"They'll delve into the Aboriginal cultural significance of the trail with Yuin (Dhurga Umbarra Carter) Kelly, explore the coastal flora with botanist, Jackie Miles and learn about the unique geology and early European settlement with Zoe Burke from Tilba Walks Heritage Talks Walking Tours.
"There will be lunchtime talks on seaweed farming, Moodji Indigenous Food Farm, threatened shorebirds, rehabilitating Murunna and citizen science.
"Lunch will be provided by a local caterer and there will be nature activities for the kids."
Future walking tours will be held in Eden and Bemboka, with more details to come.
The Wilderness to Water walking tour series is funded by the NSW Government's Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Events Program.
