Campaspe Shire Council is thrilled to announce it has secured $1 million from the Victorian Government's Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund to fund the much-anticipated upgrade of the Wilf Cox Pavilion in Kyabram. Council will contribute $2.2 million to the project, which will redevelop the entire pavilion to meet the standards and needs of the growing local community, especially the increasing participation of women and girls in AFL, cricket and netball.

Mayor Rob Amos said the project represents Council's commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to engage in and enjoy sports.

"The project will provide universally accessible, female friendly and gender-neutral change facilities, showers, toilets and umpire changerooms, as well as a lift, a new function space, a first aid room, a kitchen, and improved parking and pathways.

""This grant is terrific news for the Kyabram community. The upgraded pavilion will not only serve our current residents but will also attract new players, visitors and sports enthusiasts from surrounding areas," Cr Amos added.

The upgrade is based on extensive consultation and planning with key stakeholders, including the Kyabram Football and Netball Club, the Kyabram Cricket Club and the Kyabram Junior Football Club. Sport and Recreation Victoria, Netball Victoria and AFL also provided input into the design. With detailed designs already complete, Council anticipates the project to start during the 2024/25 financial year.

Mayor Amos applauded the work of Council officers for their work undertaken to secure this funding.

"On behalf of Council I would particularly like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the organisations who provided Letters of Support to assist with our successful application.

"This upgrade will transform the Wilf Cox Pavilion into a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment to be utilised extensively by the local and surrounding communities."
