Will Labor Ditch Premier Allan's Suburban Rail Loop?

Premier Allan must today answer one very simple question: Will Labor proceed with her Suburban Rail Loop?

Mounting Labor caucus speculation today highlights the growing division within the Allan Labor Government over the future of Premier Allan's $216 billion train line. Multiple internal sources claim the project is set to be "rephased".

Premier Allan has already spent approximately $6 billion on the Suburban Rail Loop debacle, which follows her incompetent mishandling of the Commonwealth Games, the CFMEU and the Metro Tunnel Project.

Despite infrastructure experts expressing concerns over the project's viability, benefits and business case for several years, Premier Allan has pressed ahead with signing multi-billion-dollar contracts even in the face of a $20 billion funding shortfall for the initial Suburban Rail East stretch.

In an unprecedented intervention this week, one of Victoria's official credit rating agencies, S&P, told Victorians that it does not believe Premier Allan's costings for the Suburban Rail Loop. S&P's, Anthony Walker, said the Allan Labor Government was "undershooting" the costs of the Suburban Rail Loop.

This financial recklessness has starved funds from urgent priorities including health, education, road maintained and community safety initiatives and is worsening Victoria's dire financial position as Labor's record debt is set to reach $187.8 billion by 2027-28.

Premier Allan must address the division within her own government by answering a very simple question - will Labor proceed with her Suburban Rail Loop?
