Devonport City Council's William Street Renewal Project is ahead of schedule with the Valley Road intersection works reopened to the public today.
Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman thanked the public for their patience and understanding with the current road works.
Cr Jarman said the $1.5 million Devonport City Council project is ahead of schedule, despite some delays due to the wet weather.
"Once this project is complete it will improve the safety of one of Devonport's busiest roads and roundabouts," Cr Jarman said.
"Council has engaged with the relevant stakeholders in the area of the works, which includes businesses, residents, and the local high school.
"Every effort is made to minimise the disruption of these types of major road renewal projects, however Council appreciates that any roadworks can have an impact on the community, and we are thankful for their patience and their cooperation during this time."
Cr Jarman said a key element of the William Street Renewal Project, between Valley Road and Middle Road, is the reconstruction of the roundabout.
She said the project will include two stages, with stage one focussing on new road pavement and surfacing, new kerbs and driveways to suit road level changes, and stormwater drainage improvements.
Stage two will focus on the Middle Road roundabout, which will be widened for safer traffic movement and includes upgraded traffic islands and wider paths for safe and improved pedestrian access.
Council will continue to update the community on the project's progress. Keep an eye on our social media platforms and website.
