The community is invited to have its say on updated concept designs for a redeveloped Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club.

Feedback from the local community, club members and a range of external stakeholders has been incorporated into the concept design for the project. The update includes:

  • retaining the swimming pool and members' lawn
  • improving storage areas and facilities
  • retaining the existing kiosk, and adding more public amenities including two separate public shower points, a new amenities block, and towel hooks along the Esplanade walkway
  • a new observation tower, gym, change rooms and meeting spaces
  • a new forecourt connecting the beach and car park
  • improved landscaping

The Victorian Government has committed $11.3 million to the project, while Council is contributing $3 million.

Based on the current concept plan, the full vision for the site cannot be realised within the existing budget. To address this, a range of value management options have been developed in consultation with the club.

As part of the proposal, upgrades to the pool and all future maintenance will be funded by the club.

The community can view the updated concept plans and provide feedback at Participate Hobsons Bay until Tuesday 10 September.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Cr Matt Tyler:

"These updated concept designs are a great outcome for the club and for the local community. The Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club provides a vital service for our community, and it needs modern facilities to be able to continue to serve that role.

"Council has listened to the feedback provided as part of the first round of consultation and incorporated this into the updated designs. There has been great collaboration between a range of stakeholders, to ensure progression of this important project."
