Changed traffic conditions, including road closures and parking restrictions, will be in place along select roads in Williamstown on New Year's Eve.
People gather in large numbers to view the City of Melbourne fireworks from across the water in Williamstown, with vantage points along The Strand and at Nelson Place.
The closures are in support of public safety and help to maintain access for emergency vehicles and services.
Roads will be closed from 5.30pm on Tuesday 31 December until 1.30am on Wednesday 1 January 2025 at:
- The Strand from North Road to Ferguson Street, Williamstown
- Nelson Place, between Ferguson Street and Thompson Street, Williamstown, including Syme Street
There will be no entry into the zone after 5.30pm. Vehicles already in the zone can exit until 7pm only, no vehicle movement will be allowed between 7pm and 1.30am.
Parking restrictions will also be in place on nearby streets:
- Between The Strand and Douglas Parade (North Street, Peel Street and Swan Court)
- Between The Strand and Dover Road (Yarra Street, Thomas Street, Stanley Street, John Street and Clark Street)
- Between The Strand and James Street (Stevedore Street)
Council works with a multiagency planning group, including Victoria Police, to develop the NYE service response.
The areas will be alcohol-free zones. Open fires and fireworks in this area are strictly prohibited.
