A next-generation data centre, a reimagined office and WA's highest performing retail centre are among the winners at the annual WA Property Awards.
The awards, presented by the Property Council of Australia and Principal Sponsor Energy-Tec, were expanded in 2021 with several new categories which recognise the depth, expertise and skill of the West Australian property industry.
"An impressive 75 finalists were in the running for awards. The calibre of the nomination is a testament to the WA property industry and its commitment to the design, construction and management of exceptional places," says Property Council WA Executive Director, Sandra Brewer.
"Property contributes $24.4 billion to Gross State Product and employs more than 150,000 people who shape the future of our state. The awards recognise and applaud the people who are delivering great places for West Australians and make our state a world leading business and lifestyle location," Ms Brewer adds.
The awards were presented by WA Minister for Transport, Planning and Ports, Rita Saffioti, Chief Executive Officer of Landgate, Graeme Gammie, Western Australian Planning Commission Chairman, David Caddy and event sponsors.
NEXTDC Perth Data Centre was recognised as the best commercial property. Hawaiian took home the award for best commercial fitout or refurbishment for its show suites. And Scentre Group was presented with the award for best large retail development for its $350 million Westfield Carousel.
Mirvac took home two awards - best master planned community and innovation - for its Iluma estate in the Swan Valley, which is host to an experimental affordable home that is trialling net zero energy technology.
The Roe Highway Logistics Park also received two gongs for best industrial development and best sustainable development. The facility boasts best-in-class sustainability initiatives and is the testbed for new low-carbon materials.
For the first time the awards recognised the WA Property Leader of the Year. Colliers' State Chief Executive Imran Mohiuddin was presented with the award for his commitment to innovation, diversity and delivering the best outcomes for people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rounding out the individual awards, Scott Bellerby, Managing Director of B Strata, took home the award for WA Property Management, Facilities Management, Leasing Agent or Strata Manager of the Year. This recognises his integral role championing strata reform in WA and delivering excellence for customers using innovative technology solutions.
"Our awards champion the role of the property industry as driver of jobs, growth and prosperity for all Western Australians. Congratulations to every finalist for being part of an elite cohort that demonstrates our industry's enduring commitment to excellence," says Damien Moran, Managing Director of Event Sponsor Energy-Tec.
