Researcher and resident physician Jonatan Wistrand at Lund University is awarded the prize for his outstanding doctoral dissertation, which explores doctors' own experiences of illness throughout history.
Jonatan Wistrand is a doctor affiliated with Lund University, at the Unit for the History of Medicine and a resident physician, as well as an affiliated researcher at the Birgit Rausing Centre for Medical Humanities (BRCMH ).
The motivation is as follows:
"Jonatan Wistrand at Lund University is awarded the Medicine Doctor Axel Hirsch prize 2025 in medicine history for his disseration The Doctor as Patient - Documentary and literary testimonies during the 20th and 21st centuries (2019). In his publication, Wistrand is interested in the narrative's ability to depict what cannot be quantified in the mapping of the medical profession's (ill) health."
The prize will be awarded during the autumn inauguration ceremony at Karolinska Institutet and consists of a diploma and a monetary award.
