Cessnock City Council is pleased to announce its success in securing $16.8 million in funding as part of the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Round 3 to improve Wollombi Road, Cessnock.
The Accelerated Infrastructure Fund is part of the $2.8 billion NSW Housing Package announced in the 2022-23 NSW State Budget, of which the NSW Government is investing $250 million into essential infrastructure.
Cessnock City Council is 1 of 36 Councils to receive funding in the third round of the program.
The project will involve road widening and intersection improvements at Wollombi Road, Cessnock with the details below:
• Road widening - Wollombi Road (Francis Street to West Avenue)
• Road Widening - Wollombi Road (Abbotsford Street to Francis Street)
• Intersection improvements - Wollombi Road / Abbotsford Street /Cox Street
• Intersection improvements - Wollombi Road / Bellbird North Access)
Cessnock City Council Mayor Jay Suvaal said he is excited to see the result of the upgrades and the positive impact it will have on the community.

Construction is planned to start on Wollombi Road in July 2023.
