Woman Charged Over Fatal Wang Wauk Crash: NSW Police

A woman has been charged following a fatal single-vehicle crash on the state's mid-north coast earlier this year.

About 2:15am on Saturday 27 January 2024, emergency services were called to the M1 at Wang Wauk, about ten kilometres south of Nabiac, after reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Police were told the vehicle left the road and hit several trees.

The driver – a 59-year-old woman, and the passenger – a 81-year-old woman, were trapped for a short time.

The passenger couldn't be revived and died at the scene.

The driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with internal injuries.

Officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

On Sunday 9 June 2024, the 59-year-old woman was issued a court attendance notice for the offences of negligent driving occasioning death, negligent driving and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

She will appear before Forster Local Court on Wednesday 14 August 2024.
