Cases scheduled for court hearings in August 2024
A 49-year-old woman is due to face the Elizabeth Magistrates Court charged with failure to comply with a court order restricting the number of animals she is allowed to have in her care or custody. RSPCA SA inspectors attended at the woman's Lewiston property on 17 October 2023 and seized 86 dogs and puppies, three rabbits and two guinea pigs. In August 2023, the woman was convicted on animal ill-treatment charges in relation to a Parrakie dog breeding facility that had more than 300 dogs and puppies. She received a three-month prison term, suspended on condition of a $500, three-year good behaviour bond.
A 35-year-old Morphett Vale woman has been charged with two counts of ill-treatment of an animal under SA's Animal Welfare Act. The charges are in relation to two dogs found in emaciated condition. One of the dogs also had pressure sores on his hocks, a chronic ear infection and chronic untreated dental disease. The matter is due to be heard before the Christies Beach Magistrates Court.
A 71-year-old Rosewater man is due to face the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with two counts of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to a cat that was injured in a steel-jaw trap. The defendant is further charged with breaching Animal Welfare Regulations for allegedly setting a steel jaw trap.
A 56-year-old Semaphore Park woman is due to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court this month to face two counts of ill-treatment of an animal under SA's Animal Welfare Act. The woman allegedly failed to provide adequate and appropriate food and water for eight cats and failed to provide adequate and appropriate living conditions for the animals.
A man from the Fleurieu Peninsula is due to face the Victor Harbour Magistrates Court charged with animal ill-treatment after a cat and two kittens were found living in squalid and unsanitary conditions within a unit strewn with rubbish and faeces.
Two Elizabeth East women, both aged 32, are due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court after being jointly charged with five counts of animal ill-treatment. The charges relate to 16 cats and kittens, two Maremma dogs (one found in emaciated condition, the other thin and found locked inside a small crate) and two rabbits. All the animals were allegedly being kept in poor living conditions at a property in Adelaide's northern suburbs. They are now in protective custody with RSPCA SA.
A 51-year-old-woman and her 25-year-old niece are due to appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court on two counts of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to two dogs found in emaciated condition on their Whyalla property. One dog was surrendered and has been rehomed while the other remains in protective custody with RSPCA SA.
A 48-year-old man and his 22-year-old daughter are due before the Whyalla Magistrates Court to face five charges of animal ill treatment. The charges are in relation to four dogs found in emaciated condition and three rats found in filthy cages with no water.
A 52-year-old Penfield man is due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on two charges of ill-treatment of an animal in relation to two dogs, one of which was in need of urgent veterinary treatment. The defendant is facing two further counts of animal ill-treatment in relation to two cats and a pig.
A 62-year-old man from Flagstaff Hill is due before the Christies Beach Magistrates Court charged with ill-treatment of an animal to cause death or serious harm. The charge relates to a male Boxer dog found with a large, ulcerated tumour protruding from his sternum. Due to the dog's extremely poor condition and prognosis, he was humanely euthanased after seizure.
