Woman Critically Hurt in West Ballina Crash

An investigation is underway after a woman was airlifted to a hospital following two crashes in the state's north today.

About 9.45am today (Friday 28 February 2025), emergency services were called to Bruxner Highway, Pacific Highway, West Ballina, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were told a van collided with a number of trucks, when the female driver of the van left the scene on foot prior to police arrival.

A short time later, police were called to M1, Pacific Highway, near Bruxner Highway exit, following reports a woman had been hit by a truck.

The 49-year-old woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The drivers of the trucks were all subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned negative results.

Police have established a crime scene at both locations, and officers attached to Richmond Police District, with assistance from Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the incident.
