Woman Dies After Crash At Maitland

A woman has died following a two-vehicle crash at Bishops Bridge, about 6km west of Maitland, this afternoon.

About 2.15pm today (Monday 2 September 2024), emergency services were called to Old Maitland Road, Bishops Bridge, following reports of a crash.

At the scene, police were told that an SUV and utility collided, trapping the driver of the SUV.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a woman believed to be aged in her 40s, died at the scene. She is yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the utility, a man aged in his 30s, and his two passengers - aged one and six - were taken to the John Hunter Hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

A crime scene has been established and police from Hunter Valley Police District have commenced inquiries into the incident.

Old Maitland Road, between Majors Lane and Boundary Road, has been closed in both directions.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area, with delays expected for several hours.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
