Woman Dies In Hospital After Corio Hit-run

A 43-year-old woman died in hospital following an alleged hit-run collision in Corio on 11 August.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Plantation Road and Washington Street about 6.45am after reports a woman had been struck by a car.

It is alleged the vehicle and driver involved left the scene before police arrival.

The pedestrian, a Corio woman was taken to hospital where she died just after 6pm last night.

Major Collison Investigation Unit detectives charged an 18-year-old man from Corio with dangerous driving causing serious injury, careless driving, fail to stop, fail to render assistance and drive whilst suspended.

Investigators will now upgrade the charges to dangerous driving causing death.

He will appear at the Geelong Magistrates' Court on 3 December.
