The Australian Constructors Association's (ACA) It's Possible campaign is off to a strong start, with 50 women attending the first site tour at Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI). The event gave participants a hands-on look at construction work, including walking the new 3.7km runway, meeting workers on site and learning about pathways into the industry.
ACA CEO Jon Davies said the response to the campaign proves there is strong interest from women looking for a fresh start in construction.
"The enthusiasm at our first tour shows that women are ready to step into the industry," said Mr Davies.
"Many are seeing construction as a real career option for the first time, and this campaign is helping to open doors. With more site visits planned, we're excited to show even more women what's possible."
Participants heard from women already working in the industry, including Emily Wood, a former retail worker who has now graduated from CPB Contractors' Women in Construction program.
"There are so many great things about working in the industry – I love working outdoors, feeling part of a team and the variety of work with no two days ever the same," said Ms Wood.
"I'm doing things and learning things I would never have imagined possible."
Building on the success of the first event, ACA will continue rolling out the It's Possible campaign with more site tours planned across NSW. Women interested in exploring a career in construction can register for upcoming tours at www.itspossible.net.au
This site tour was hosted by CPB Contractors and other ACA member companies are set to host future events. The It's Possible initiative is proudly funded by the NSW Government's Women in Construction Industry Innovation Program.
