Temporary repairs to The Wool Road in Old Erowal Bay will allow the road to remain open over the busy summer period while Council continues to work on a permanent solution.
Extreme rainfall in June 2024 caused a major sink hole on the road, resulting in a three-week closure and 20-minute detours via Tomerong for the community.
Director City Services, Carey McIntyre, said recent reinforcement work to the northern pipe culvert would enable the road to stay open until major rehabilitation works begin in 2025.
"We've completed the detailed road design and due to the complexity and size of the job, the next step is to get the job out to tender for a specialist contractor to complete the work and provide value for money," Mr McIntyre said.
"While the complex planning and design process has taken the past few months to progress, it does mean that travel will be uninterrupted throughout summer and the first few months of next year during the tendering phase," he said.
"All going to plan, we'd like to see construction begin after the Easter holidays."
The majority of funding will come from the Australian and NSW governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements. The necessary contribution needed from Council is currently being assessed with the tender to be published in 2025.
