The City of Coffs Harbour Council has approved plans to support more diverse and affordable housing, economic growth and new jobs for Woolgoolga.
The plans went before the Council on Thursday night after having been on public exhibition earlier in the year.
Council approved the package – including the Woolgoolga Movement and Place Plan for the Woolgoolga town centre – as another step in the implementation of the Woolgoolga Town Centre Masterplan and the Coffs Harbour Local Growth Management Strategy 2020.
"The approval of the plans is subject to ensuring sufficient parking supply for the town centre and the new growth area," said the City's Mayor, Cr Paul Amos.
City of Coffs Harbour's Director City Planning and Communities Chris Chapman said the plans aim to grow Woolgoolga in a way that maintains its unspolit and unhurried beachside character but that is proactive in supporting business growth.
"Removing outdated planning requirements will help attract investment and revitalise the town – one of the main goals of the Woolgoolga Town Centre Masterplan which the community has shaped and guided," Mr Chapman said.
Woolgoolga North West and Woolgoolga West are earmarked for around 1,130 homes in 3 large precincts - Newmans Road, Barkhut Road and Tramway Drive. The plans set out the new rules for their development.
"The new plans for the north west growth area have been designed to deliver amenity-focused density, which will improve livability for residents by providing access to beautiful open space and natural areas," Mr Chapman said.
Council also voted to investigate alternative options around relocating the rest of the on-road cycle path to West Woolgoolga, with the aim of optimising cyclist and driver safety.
The documents that were approved, or endorsed, are:
- The Coffs Harbour Development Control Plan (DCP) 2015 – Amendment No. 19 (Woolgoolga Town Centre, Woolgoolga North West and Woolgoolga West)
- The Woolgoolga North West and Woolgoolga West Contributions Plan
- The Woolgoolga Town Centre Contributions Plan
- The Woolgoolga Movement and Place Plan
The new plans will be effective in early 2024 and available from City's website.
