Work Starts On New Maryborough Hospital Logistics Hub

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is getting on with delivering a modern and upgraded hospital in the Goldfields region, with works commencing on a new state-of-the-art logistics hub at the Maryborough and District Hospital.

The $4.3 million project funded through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund (RHIF), will improve hospital logistics - enhancing storage and handling capacity, improving linen services, and upgrading waste management.

The new hub facility will streamline logistics for the redeveloped Maryborough Hospital, making it faster and more efficient to distribute medical and other supplies throughout the hospital.

The hub will also strengthen infection control measures by providing a segregated space for a linen handling, hot water equipment wash bays, and an expanded space for clinical waste storage.

Staff will also benefit from an upgraded logistics hub with new equipment - including bin lifters, pallet stackers, and trailers - improving health and safety.

The new facility will also feature solar panels and charging stations for electric vehicles and other equipment - helping to reduce the hospital's environmental footprint.

Construction is set for completion in March 2025 - work on the facility builds on progress already made in delivering the $115 million redevelopment of the Maryborough and District Hospital.

The bigger and better hospital will feature a new urgent care centre, a 32-bed inpatient and maternity unit, two operating theatres and recovery spaces, and a day medical centre with imaging, pharmacy, and pathology services - allowing an additional 4,000 patients to be treated every year.

The Maryborough District Health Service has received more than $11.7 million through the RHIF to date. Projects previously funded include new student accommodation, new medical equipment, kitchen upgrades, and fire safety system upgrades.

The $790 million Regional Health Infrastructure Fund delivers a variety of shovel-ready projects across regional Victoria such as operating theatre refurbishments, new waiting rooms and hospital beds, accessible paths and ramps, additional consulting rooms, expansion projects and equipment upgrades.

As stated by Acting Ministerfor Health InfrastructureIngrid Stitt

"Once completed, the new logistics hub will make delivering important hospital services easier and more efficient for staff, while also playing a key role in helping to reduce the hospital's environmental footprint - something locals can be proud of."

As stated by the Member for Ripon Martha Haylett

"The Regional Health Infrastructure Fund has already allocated more than $11.7 million to the Maryborough District Health Service - an investment in the future health and wellbeing of the local community."
