Work on the expansion of the Bruny Island ferry terminals at Kettering and Roberts Point will begin in the coming weeks, starting with preliminary work and setting up the site, with the main construction work beginning in the New Year.
Tenders have also been called for the marine works, which will include construction of additional piers at the two terminals to accommodate the new ferry service.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on our plan to improve travel times to and from Bruny Island and reduce ferry queues and congestion on Ferry Road and the Channel Highway, with the first new ferry delivered to SeaLink this year and the second new ferry due to be delivered next year.
The multi-million dollar upgrade to the ferry terminals will provide better traffic management for vehicles and the ferries, and more orderly and safer boarding.
The new Berth 2 will increase ferry crossing capacity and will be serviced by the two new ferries, improving the experience for ferry users.
The project will include dual-lane loading ramps at both the Kettering and Roberts Point terminals. The existing road will be extended to the new berth and directional line marking will be added to both terminals.
Work on the marine infrastructure, which includes the construction of ramps for vehicle access to the ferries and fenders to secure the ferries in the new berth, will commence in conjunction with the landside facilities construction.
The addition of Berth 2 will also allow routine maintenance to be carried out on either berth without interruption to the ferry service.
Construction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021.
