The Tasmanian Liberal Government is working hard to make our roads safer and more efficient as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.
The next stage of the Macquarie and Davey streets Bus Improvements project will commence next week.
Minister for Infrastructure, Michael Ferguson, said the project was an important step in the Tasmanian Liberal Government's Southern Projects solution, providing safer and more reliable transport options between Hobart's CBD and the growing southern suburbs.
"This next stage of works includes installing two new larger bus shelters to provide more sheltered waiting space for passengers and a bicycle lane on Davey Street between Sandy Bay Road and Linden Avenue," Mr Ferguson said.
"These works follow the implementation of an extended peak period clearway on Macquarie Street in April this year, which formed the first stage of the project.
"Work will start from Monday, 22 July on Davey Street, between Murray Street and Linden Avenue. To minimise impacts to the travelling public, most works will take place overnight," he said.
The works include upgrades to bus stops 2 and 3 on Davey Street and installing a cycle lane between Sandy Bay Road and Linden Avenue.
To install the bicycle lane, bus stop 5 near Heathfield Avenue and selected parking spaces on Davey Street will be removed permanently.
Works will mainly take place 6:30pm to 6:30am Sunday night through to Friday morning.
During the nightworks road users may experience the following impacts:
- no parking and reduced speed limits in the work zones;
- temporary footpath closures;
- bus services at stops 2 and 3 will collect passengers from a location closer to the Murray Street intersection between 6:30pm to 6:30am.
There will also be some work during the day, between 9:30am to 3:00pm, which will not impact traffic.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-August 2024.
Motorists are asked to allow 15-minutes extra travel time during construction hours and to follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.
